'Cloverfield' (2008) is a monster movie directed by Matt Reeves, produced by J.J. Abrams and written by Drew Goddard. It is known for its viral marketing campaign starting with an untitled teaser-trailer in front of 'Transformers'. Quickly the internet was buzzing with theories as to what the film was about. Explanations ranged from Cthulu to a giant lion. When the movie finally arrived on 01-18-08 it turned out to be an interesting take on the monster-movie genre. The whole story is told from the perspective of one video camera. A guy called Hud has been given the task of taping a party thrown for his best friend Rob. But the party is interrupted by a gigantic creature attacking New York. Rob obsessed with rescuing his one and only love ventures deep into the city where the creatures are. Hud, Marlena and Lily help Rob in his quest to find Beth in a bizarre and twisted new world. The film is pretty pessimistic, gruesome and sadistic in its portrayal of the event. The music I used for this video is the official soundtrack for this movie. It is composed by Michael Giacchino and is only heard in the film during the end credits. A shame really because it is a fabulous piece of music. 'Cloverfield' and its music are the property of Paramount Pictures.
