Red Fort and Humayun's tomb both are UNESCO world heritage sites present at Delhi and in this video, we are exploring both the places giving you all the details. Facts about Humayun's tomb: -Humayun's tomb was commissioned by Humayun's first wife in 1569-70. -Designed by a Persian architect Mirak Mirza Ghiyath, it approximately 8 years to complete. -It was the first garden-tomb on the Indian subcontinent and the first structure to use red sandstone at large scale. -First Indian building with double-domed elevation on a huge scale. -Houses 100 Tombs inside the Complex -Humayun's tomb was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1993 The tomb was placed in the center of a 30-acre Char Bagh (4 Gardens), a Persian-style garden with a quadrilateral layout which was first of its kind in South Asia -The tomb’s concept of eight side chambers symbolizes the Islamic concept of paradise. -Humayun’s Tomb inspired the construction of the much-celebrated Taj Mahal, which was built a century later. -Tomb and mosque of Isa Khan was Constructed in 1547 CE (around twenty years before Humayun's tomb) -Isa Khan was a noble at the courts of Sher Shah Suri and Islam Shah Suri. -The tomb was constructed in the Lodhi architectural style. -Built during his own lifetime served as a burial place for the entire family of Isa Khan. Facts about Red fort: -Commissioned by Mughal king Shah Jahan, the construction of the Red Fort started on 12 May 1638, It took nearly 10 years to complete. -Built by architect Ustad Ahmad Lahori, who also constructed the Taj Mahal. -Originally known as “Qila-e-Mubarak” (The Blessed Fort) Red Fort Complex was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2007. The original color of the fort was white built with sandstones. -As the white stone began chipping off, the British had to paint it red. On 15 August 1947, the first prime minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru, raised the Indian national flag above the Lahori Gate. -The fort was plundered of its artwork and jewels during Nadir Shah's invasion of the Mughal Empire in 1747. -A market was built inside the fort to serve the needs of higher ranked Mughal women, residing inside the fort. -Diwan-i-Aam -The inner main court, has Public Audience Hall The hall's columns and engrailed arches exhibit fine craftsmanship The courtyard (mardana) behind it leads to the imperial apartments. -Kohinoor diamond was a part of the royal throne of Shah Jahan – located inside the red fort complex -After having acquired the Red Fort, the British went on a destroying spree by damaging and selling all of the valuables and caused extensive damage to the Red Fort. -The marble throne (Jharoka) inside Diwan-i-Aam was used by Shah Jahan for the daily ceremonial appearance.
