Steve Hoyne's video: Virtual Alaska Vacation 6-28 Juneau - State Capital

@Virtual Alaska Vacation 6-28 Juneau - State Capital
To my Grandchildren, Alaska is one of only two states which do not share a border with another state. Alaska is bordered by Yukon and British Columbia, Canada, and the remainder of Alaska is surrounded by water. Alaska has more coastline than all the other states combined. It is our largest state. Alaska's capital, Juneau, is located in the relatively narrow strip of islands and coastal plains between British Columbia, Canada and the Gulf of Alaska. It can be reached only by air or water. It is surrounded by mountains to the east and by rugged mountainous islands to the west. Because the terrain is so hilly and steep, Alaska's capitol building is simply a rectangular building, more like an office building than a traditional capitol. However, beautiful mountainous landscape is visible from every window. Eleven miles away is the Mendenhall Glacier. This is a terrestrial glacier which terminates in Mendenhall Lake. In earlier times the glacier extended to the sea. The action of the glacier carved out the area which became the lake bed as the glacier receded. Geologists refer to these carved out areas as "cirques". Here are video clips of our visit to Juneau, to the Alaska Capitol, and to the Mendenhall Glacier.
