The massive collection has more than 590 reels of sound recordings, 165 boxes of materials, 70 cubic feet of manuscripts, as well as photographs, research notes, interviews transcripts, playbills, contracts, and much more. One of the gems of this collection is likely the forth coming book on Robert Johnson. McCormick was the first to find Johnson's family, and collect photo's of the blues legend. The book was a collection of McCormick's research on Johnson, including interviews and pictures never seen by the public. All of this was originally going to be released in the early 70's, but it never happened. The Smithsonian Institution will release the book in April, 2023. “McCormick’s archive has long been of near-mythical proportions within research and music history circles, and it lives up to its promise,” John Troutman, the museum’s curator of music, shared in a statement. “This archive yields revelations about the lives of many significant early- and mid-century blues artists—from Bernice Edwards and Robert Johnson to Sam ‘Lightnin’’ Hopkins and Mance Lipscomb—due to McCormick’s dogged research methods and his hundreds of interviews with artists and their families.” I don't know about you, but I cannot wait till this is released!
