In March of 1971, "I Don't Blame You" reached the Top 20 of the Billboard "Hot 100," charting at , and the Top 10 of the Billboard "R&B Singles" chart, peaking at . In England it made it to on their singles chart. This was the group's last Top 20 pop hit before Smokey Robinson's departure from The Miracles the following year. Belying its up-tempo nature, this sad and mournful tune has Smokey, as the song's narrator, telling a girl with whom he obviously has an attraction (for which she doesn't share his feelings) that he doesn't blame her for "playing it cool" when she decides to call off the relationship.
