Salonkapelle Karl Haupt: O THAT YANKIANA RAG Gramophone 240705 Mx.-No.: 15212 b Vienna, Nov 18, 1910 Back in Vienna after touring the US with his salon orchestra in 1908, Karl Haupt recorded some Ragtime tunes for Austrian Gramophone. "Oh that Yankiana Rag" is only instrumental here, but the number is of specific interest for its lyrics, as they refer to Ragtime music spreading Europe (France). However it spread Austria too, though there are only very few european recordings of this particular number (one is by the french Orchestre Tzigane du Volney, also found here on youtube). Everyday life images of imperial Vienna before WW I, some of amusement venues (Prater), where Haupt also used to play.
