Here demonstrated - matte paintings, foreground forced perspective miniatures, and of course, stop motion creature character effects composited using rear screen projection. Ray Harryhausen's name is the most recognizable as one of the pioneers of special effects visual imagery, before CGI. Jim Danforth's name may not be as well known to the general public, but one might consider Jim Danforth (after Ray Harryhausen) also a master of traditional special visual effects.
