Story Fizz's video: Everything You Need to Know About The Witcher on Netflix

Even though the Games of Thrones ended a few months ago, we’re still fascinated by medieval lore of knights and monsters, cruel kings and beautiful maidens. If you’re a fan of kingdoms, battles, and brave warriors then Netflix’s hit show The Witcher is probably the show that you should look forward to. The Witcher’s origins come from a series of stories by Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski. These stories were initially adapted to Polish TV following which they made their appearance in videogames. The videogame was The Witcher III: Wild Hunt which was based on the show. The main plot of the series revolves around Geralt of Rivia who is an exceptional monster hunter living in a fantasy land. In this fantasy land, human inhabitants learned magic from the elves before they finally wiped them out. While wiping out the elves to near extinction, humans unwittingly allow for the release of monstrous creatures in their land. Hence, the need for superbeings such as Geralt to control the situation, save lives and keep the peace. What we do know so far is that Showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich told the recently concluded comic con audience that the TV series would be an addition to the story of the Witcher books and not a direct adaptation of it. This spells amazing news for those who have already read the books as they can expect new plot twists and turns that will be enough to keep them enthralled for many seasons to come. In fact one such change has already been noticed by fans in the trailer of Netflix’s The Witcher. This is with regard to Geralt’s swords. In the books and the videogames, Geralt has two swords that are prominently visible on him. One is of steel and the other is of silver. In the Netflix adaptation of the show, Geralt played by Cavill seems to have only one sword on him. This indeed seemed strange to fans but there are hints that Geralt will get that second sword in the show too. Probably at some crucial moment when he needs it the most. In fact, in the Polish onscreen adaptation of the books, the second sword was stowed as part of Geralt’s horse’s saddle and taken out when warrior needed it. That’s most likely how Cavill’s Geralt will do it too. We’ll just have to wait and watch! The lead role is played by none other than Superman star Henry Cavill. Cavill stars as Geralt of Rivia, the protagonist of The Witcher series who is a witcher. After having completed his training he becomes a witcher at Kaer Morhen thanks to his superhuman abilities of physical energy and thoughts. Throughout the series, Geralt is accompanied by his horse Plotka. other notable cast members include Jodhi May, Adam Levy, and Lars Mikkelsen.
