While Marvel may have killed off one of its main characters in the Avengers series Tony Stark aka Iron Man, it doesn’t herald the end for the superhero. While fan theories are abound, that Tony Stark is secretly alive, we have here for you a list of Marvel characters who could possibly replace Iron Man in any future Marvel movies. The references are taken from the comic books and from hints in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Harley Keener already worked alongside Stark in Iron Man 3 to battle the Mandarin. Keener’s appearance at Stark’s funeral sparked rumours that he might be the next Iron Man. A popular fan theory holds that the young webslinger Spider-Man will be the one to replace Tony Stark as the next Iron Man. This is a huge possibility especially as the comics have already given us a taste of the Iron Spider exoskeleton that was developed by Stark. The question now remains whether Marvel is ready to take a risk and combine two of its biggest characters - Iron Man and Spider Man - into one? Not one of the most popular theories but definitely one of the more emotional ones holds that Stark’s wife Pepper Potts will replace him as the new iron-clad superhero. Having spent the most amount of time with Tony Stark even as his personal assistant before they were in a relationship, Potts was truly the closest to Tony and knew his mannerisms and methods. To add more support here, Potts was even seen wearing Stark’s suit in Iron Man 3. Sister of the Black Panther T’Challa and Princess of Wakanda, Shuri is the perfect combination of brains and beauty. An offbeat choice for a possible replacement to Tony Stark’s Iron Man, Shuri might fit well with Marvel’s fascination for strong female characters. Yet another super impressive lady to possibly make the cut is Riri Williams aka Ironheart. The gifted engineering genius makes her appearance in the comics for having created her own armour suit which was based on the original iron man armour. After successfully testing the suit Riri even fought the second civil war alongside Iron Man against the forces of Captain Marvel. This might also work well to help Marvel introduce a completely new character in the film series. The one character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with sufficient experience in the iron suit is this feisty army lieutenant who has often served as a back-up for Iron Man when he was outnumbered or incapacitated. Plus, the fact that Rhodes and Stark have been long-time friends and have a huge backstory only serves to make this replacement a huge possibility. Rhodes would make a worthy Iron Man and it helps that we have already seen what wonders he can do in the suit as War Machine. Plus, this is one replacement that Pepper Potts herself might endorse.
