Here are my 4 key exercises to get that first pull up. 1. Scap pull ups - strengthen the muscles that start the pull. Tip: if you can't hang your full bodyweight yet, rest your feet on a box to support your weight. 2. Horizontal row - build the strength and skill for a pull up. Get really good at these before moving on to.... 3. Negatives - these are tough, but will get you that elusive pull up strength if you persist. Squeeze those shoulder blades together at the top! 4. Dumbbell single arm row - the basic strength builder. Should be part of any back strength routine. The more often the better, when it comes to pull up training.
