The mic used is a Shure SM7, which while a fantastic vocal mic used on some of the biggest tracks of all times from artists like Michael Jackson, what Paul was looking for was the sound of a large condenser microphone. Not to be deterred by the circumstances Paul tracked the vocal and then set about taking a dull sounding vocal and adding shine to give it the modern pop sound he wanted for the track.
