@Stalag Luft 1 Prisoner of War (POW) Diary (4 of 5): The Germans Abandon the Camp
Robert R. Case was born and raised in Arkansas. In the Second World War he served as a B-17 bombardier. On his third mission, his plane was shot down over Oschersleben, Germany. The target was a German Focke-Wulfe fighter aircraft factory. He was held as a prisoner of war (POW) in Stalag Luft 1 near Barth, Germany, for sixteen months. The Y.M.C.A. provided prisoners with journals. These excerpts and drawings are taken from Mr. Case's prisoner journal. Mr. Case died in Hot Springs, Arkansas, in 2012.
