Steps to practice Parsvakonasana: To begin stand with your feet wide apart.Rotate your right foot out so that your right heel is in line with the arch of the left foot.The right toes are facing towards the right side while your left toes are facing forward. Keep your pelvis squared and your belly gently tucked in. Now slid the right knee forward while keeping the left heel firmly on the floor.Feel that opening in the groin and the thighs.Suck in the belly and lift the spine up and lean on to your right hip joint.Do not let the right knee to cross over the toe. Keep your pelvis squared at all times.Feel the left side of the body being stretched.Increase the bend on the right, go down further and place your right palm outside the right foot.Extend the left hand over your head and gaze at your left middle finger. If you have a neck injury, just avoid turning your head to look up. Instead look straight ahead. Stay there for a couple of breathes. Come back the standing position and repeat it on the other side. Caution: Parsvakonasana should be avoided by people who suffer from high blood pressure. People who suffer frequent head aches and insomnia should also avoid this asana. Benefits: Parsvakonasana helps to increase stamina. It strengthens the thighs, hips,ankles and the knees. It helps to stretch the groin, waist, the back,lungs and shoulders. The stretch helps to massage and stimulate the abdominal organs. It helps to open the hip joints. The intense stretch also opens the chest and lungs.
