@Stylusboy - 25 : Take Me Home (Coventry City of Culture 2021 Song Commission)
http://www.stylusboy.co.uk I wrote this song as a commission for Coventry City of Culture 2021's project . The project commissioned 30 artists to create a ten line response to one of the Universal Human Rights. I have written a mini song in response to Article 25: Everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of himself and of his family, including food, clothing, housing and medical care and necessary social services, and the right to security in the event of unemployment, sickness, disability, widowhood, old age or other lack of livelihood in circumstances beyond his control. Motherhood and childhood are entitled to special care and assistance. All children, whether born in or out of wedlock, shall enjoy the same social protection. The track is a 'pay what you want' download and I will be donating all the income to the amazing Coventry charity Carriers of Hope who work with refugees in Coventry. http://www.carriersofhope.org.uk/ A section from the Coventry City of Culture 2021 press release: Chenine Bhathena, Creative Director for Coventry City of Culture Trust, said the city was perfectly placed to be at the centre of this important conversation. She said: “The Declaration of Human Rights was momentous for citizens and nations around the world. It gave us freedoms never imagined and opportunities which previously were only for the few. “Throughout its history, Coventry has always pioneered activism, fighting for workers’ rights, promoting equality, tackling racism, making the case for arts in education, welcoming new communities, finding solutions for poverty and health inequalities. “Coventry has always been a city of migrants and will help us talk to our citizens to understand who they are, what they hold most dear and the challenges and barriers that they face in their everyday lives. “We want to throw a spotlight on the everyday stories of our people and communities, to show their heroic actions and pioneering spirit. “We will ask the questions: Why Coventry? Why are you living here? Working here? Studying here? Bringing up families here? Why are you escaping to Coventry? “We are known as a sanctuary, a place of welcome, a safe home and a city that promotes peace. This is a great opportunity to explore our place in this global conversation.” THE LYRICS 25 : TAKE ME HOME There is a weight on me, I feel the scars of insignificance. My bones are cold, dead in confusion. I am drowning. Would you take a little weight from me? Lift my head out of the sand? Come alongside, place my feet firm. Take me home. Now as comfort draws near, I feel a glimpse of hope return. Fear still fights, but you’ve got my back. I am living.
