Motion to modernize the Chebororwa Training Centre moved by Honorable Joel Rugut-MCA Kipsomba at Uasin Gishu county Assembly has been passed. Hon Joel Rugut, who is the chairman of the committee of agriculture and livestock, raised concern on agriculture noting that agriculture supports 80% of the rural area. He emphasized that Uasin Gishu County should have a comprehensive agricultural plan where farmers will be trained. He explained that chebarorwa training centre should be improved so that researches on agriculture can be carried out in the institution. He said that this will enable farmers to prevent and even treat crop and livestock diseases and pest by themselves without necessarily visiting an agrovet Honorable Gilbert Tenai -mca cheptiret /Kipchamo while seconding the motion said that Uasin Gishu County is an agricultural center and should therefore be improved in order to serve the whole country. He added that agricultural produce has gone down due to lack of support and that farmers go through a lot of challenges. He concluded that farmers should embark on modern technology and food security. Honorable Francis Muya supported the motion by saying that agriculture should be treated as a business in Uasin Gishu County. Therefore farmers should be trained in order to provide food not only for Uasin Gishu but also for other counties. She said that all lands should be put in used in order to have maximum production. “Farmers lack skills of farming, production and storage .our lands are idle and we need agri-business to occupy the lands” said honorable Muya Members of the August house agreed that farmers should get advanced skills and an intensified type of training. They stated that Uasin Gishu County is among the three granary of the country and should therefore be improved to serve the country properly. “Uasin Gishu County has not been using Chebororwa agricultural training centre properly as a county. It needs to be taken seriously and should be well facilitated” said honorable Muya. Members also said that the committee of agriculture should visit the institution. The house agreed that Uasin Gishu county farmers should make use of their wetlands in order to benefit the entire country.
