Sunny Nash reads from her book, "Bigmama Didn't Shop At Woolworth's." http://sunnynash.blogspot.com/2011/08/my-beautiful-stage-mother.html Walking home from school, I passed five beer joints where drunks staggered to the sides of the buildings to relieve themselves in plain view of passing school children. I caught glimpses of the private parts of many of my neighbors on my way home from school and saw some of them doing other things that should never have been done in public. Fights were so common, we simply crossed the street to avoid being hit by flying beer bottles. And vulgar language was so common we ignored it as normal. My cousin was shot in the arm with a small caliber handgun while she was passing by a beer joint at mid-day. The bullet remains in her arm to this day.
