Earlier, Susmita Das in association with Lighthouse had presented "Dhitang Dhitang" a bouquet of 8 songs of our soil. The lyrics and music of these folk songs were inspired by the traditions and culture of different indigenous tribal groups of Odisha. Now, we are presenting a set of folk songs from coastal and rural belts of Odisha motivated by traditions, beliefs and ways of life having typical rendition styles and using conventional musical instruments. The album is titled “Kain Phoola Beni" which manifests the braid of the Mother Goddess of Village bejeweled by Lilies. Every song on this album is just like a divine lily embroidered in one braid. Kanjani Bhajana is a type of folk song that uses the khanjani, a traditional instrument. These songs are mainly performed by members of Mahima cult and were made famous by Santha Kabi Bhima Bhoi. The saints from this cult sing songs with the khanjani, creating catchy rhythms. Bhima Bhoi’s deep philosophical and devotional lyrics add significant meaning to the songs. One of the songs from this khanjani Bhajana is “Bhagya thile dhara dhara padmapada” an Odia bhajana written by Santha Kabi Bhima Bhoi, who led Mahima Movement. This song reflects Bhima Bhoi’s ideology, emphasizing equality, simplicity and devotion.
