Earlier, Susmita Das in association with Lighthouse had presented "Saebani Laeboni" a bouquet of 8 songs of our soil. The lyrics and music of these folk songs were inspired by the traditions and culture of different indigenous tribal groups of Odisha. "Saibani Laeboni" is a vibrant and traditional Ghumura folk song that celebrates the essence of rural life in the Kalahandi region of Odisha. With its energetic beats and soulful lyrics, the song captures the beauty of love, nature, and the simple joys of village life. This song is often performed during the Nuakhai festival and other festive occasions, where the rhythmic pulse of the Ghumura drum creates a lively atmosphere, filling the hearts of everyone with joy and spirit. The lyrics speak to the connection of the people with their land, highlighting the emotions and experiences of rural folk, their strong bonds, and their harmonious relationship with nature. Ghumura, a mighty traditional instrument, holds deep historical significance. Once used to energize soldiers during war, it combines the Srungara Rasa (romantic) and Bira Rasa (valiant) to transmit energy and summon strength. The powerful hum of the Ghumura drum vibrates through the air, along with the sounds of the Tal and Nishan, resonating through the entire region. On Saptapuri Amavasya, Ghumura is worshipped in village temples, marking the beginning of its practice for the year. Its use during Nuakhai, Odisha's agrarian festival, brings communities together as people perform Ghumura dances, filling the village with rhythmic energy. This performance is a heartfelt contribution by Guru Markanda Nayak and the talented Chhoriagada Ghumra Group from Kala Gram, Chhoriagada, located in the Junagada block of Kalahandi. Notably, Chhoriagada village has been honored with the status of ‘Kala Gram’ by the Culture Department of Odisha, recognizing its rich artistic heritage. Ghumura dance gained international fame when it was performed during the Asiad Games, taking Odisha's cultural legacy to the world.
