Suvarna Nalapat's video: Parur and Manikandeswara Shiva temples

Chowghat Taluk, Trissur district. These 2 temples though small are important in history of Vannerinad. Kerala kings had Punna tree as their totem when they enjoy worldly life with their women, Pana (sala) when they learn, and Vaaka when they are crowned in Vakayur Perumthurai (Thirunava) as soverigns. Punnayurkulam , Punnayur, Punnathur and Punna are reminiscent of their worldly spots. Parur is a place where Parava (Devadasi) had their place. Manikandeswaram is famous for the free food given to 3000 travellers and students and teachers of Vanneri Nad , even during Logon's time. The Shivalinga of Parur is consecrated by rishi and it is a Banalinga , brought from Narmada river. Manikandeswaram has Kiratha and Kirathi . The differences from usual temple features, the dwarapalaka with a dwarf Kirathasunu accompanying are noteworthy.
