Yooperlites are a very unique and amazing rock to look at and have been found along the shores of Lake Superior in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. The only thing is you'd never know you were looking at a Yooperlite unless you had a UV light. That's because without a UV light, Yooperlites look like any other ordinary gray rock. What makes a Yooperlite so unique is the fluorescent Sodalite contained within it that when illuminated by UV light, causes the rock to appear to be burning like a hot coal! Yooperlites can come in all shapes and sizes. These are truly one of the most fun and awe-inspiring minerals for "rock-hounds" to find!
