With little wind and a lot of cloud, a 72 km task was set with one turn point, followed by a 50 km leg west. And go west they did, in all different directions! New comer José Castillejo and Thomas Christensen led out along the course line initially. Several gaggles spread out taking different routes, to both the north and south. To the north, following the convergence, Tim Rochas on the Niviuk Icepeak RFC, and Michael Sigel on the Gin Boomerang RFC, pushed out and were in the lead neck and neck with 12 km from Ess. There was also a big gaggle to the south. Half way round the race the pilots were spread out over a distance of 10 km perpendicular to the course line! Michael Kuffer, Andre Rainsford and Russell Achterberg took the route to the north and managed to pull ahead of the others 10 km from goal and crossed Ess first. Well done to the all the pilots today who gave us such a fantastic race to watch, and especially to the 82 who made goal.
