THELONGHOSEcom's video: I S E SIDEMOUNT DIVING HELMET

@I.S.E SIDEMOUNT DIVING HELMET
When we dive Sidemount, and we use the configuration in the environment where it was originally was meant for it does make sense to use a helmet. Crawling through very small restrictions, in places were we can't dive on Backmount, you might want to use a helmet...in order to protect our most important tool in diving...yes, our brains. The lights on the helmet are removable, and in case of having to use your backup lights due to a primary light failure, we are still able to signal and communicate adequately.....in my world, one of the most important things in diving. (I don't do any solo diving) If you can't remove the lights..you can't effectively use your backuplights and you would be shining your light in your team mates eyes..and maybe start the "chain of events" Imagine signalling ok...;-) Not only in a real situation or emergency this is important, but also during training and teaching people how to dive. I consider myself an educator, before everything else. Divers need a clear explanation behind a concept, for me the "whatever works" is not an option, if this would be true, we wouldn't need instructors. Ideas and concept are not just ideas but have a "history". To have students swim around with helmets with lights on them and telling them "put them on if you need to"... doesn't bring anything to the table...it does not contribute to creating safer divers are more skilled divers. it creates divers with backup lights on their helmets...nothing more.. A myth is that you can't donate thelonghose or a hose because it gets stuck behind the helmet. I suppose this video will ends this "old school" idea for once and for ever.. It is simply NOT true.. (Maybe back in the day the lights were a lot bigger ) Anyways, enjoy...we did for sure ! Divers : Mike van Splunteren Achim Schloeffel Video : Alexia Dunand
