The roar of helicopter blades fills the air as US Marines and Philippine Defense forces come together in a show of strength and cooperation. The annual Balikatan exercise provides a unique opportunity for the two nations to train together, sharpen their skills, and build the trust and interoperability necessary for a successful joint defense effort. This year's iteration includes a focus on coastal defense, amphibious landing, and the deployment of cutting-edge systems like the HIMARS and Patriot systems. Join us as we delve into the action and explore the strong ties forged between the US Marines and the Philippine Defense. The drill began with a combined amphibious Landing, followed by coastal defense training providing the unit with an opportunity to train in the Western Pacific working alongside the Philippine Marine Corps and other Armed Forces Philippines counterparts over the course of eight days. U.S. Marines assigned to Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 466 (HMH-466), conduct flight and forward arming and refueling point operations during Balikatan 22 at Cagayan, Philippines, March 2022. Balikatan is an annual exercise between the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the U.S. military designed to strengthen bilateral interoperability, capabilities, trust, and cooperation built over decades of shared experiences.
