The Philippines accused China’s coastguard of installing a “floating barrier” in part of the Scarborough Shoal – a disputed area of the South China Sea. It said that the buoys allegedly placed by Beijing prevented Filipinos from fishing within its Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ). Photos and videos shared by Philippines showed multiple buoys about 985 feet long lined up and allegedly guarded by Chinese boats in the area known in the Philippines as Bajo de Masinloc.
