His attention to detail is legendary and all his movies are layered in a way that demands multiple viewings. In fact, such was his reputation for filling his productions with various layers of meaning, that a documentary called ROOM 237 was made about the THE SHINNING, which explores this very notion. Kubrick displayed an intelligence in his movies that has not been seen anywhere else and he trusted the audience to decipher whatever meaning they wanted from the film. Kubrick died in 1999. Martin Scorsese As a sickly kid living in New York City’s Little Italy Martin Scorsese threw himself into old movies, creating storyboards for the films he saw in his head. He was always destined for greatness. And the greatness of Scorsese is that his unique style is hardwired into every film he makes. . Who can deny the feverish power of MEAN STREETS, TAXI DRIVER, RAGING BULL, and GOODFELLAS? Still prolifically producing hit after hit today, such as WOLF OF WALL STREET and SHUTTER ISLAND, and producing many other films and TV shows, there are no signs of slowing down. Steven Spielberg Probably the most famous director ever Spielberg defined the summer blockbuster with JAWS, sent us on a cinematic adventure with INDIANA JONES and has won countless awards for SCHINDLER’S LIST. And although Spielberg’s films are hugely varied they are all quintessentially Spielberg films. That is to say that they make audiences emotionally involved with the characters and the plots. Having set up the DreamWorks studio in 1994 he continues to make movies at rate of around one every three years. More recent examples of his work include BRIDGE OF SPIES and LINCOLN and WAR HORSE. Orson Welles Orson Welles changed how movies were made with his undoubted masterpiece CITIZEN KANE. The camera work in that film provided a shallow depth of field that made previous movies seem 2D. On top of that he invested great emotion into his characters that audiences had never seen before. Indeed Charles Foster Kane was the most complex hero-villain in American cinema. Although he didn’t make many films he will always be seen as the father of modern cinema. The few films he did make, from TOUCH OF EVIL to THE LADY FROM SHANGHAI, were all masterpieces. Christopher Nolan Over the course of fifteen years Chris Nolan has gone from low-budget independent films to making the biggest blockbusters ever made and has become the hottest director in Hollywood in the process. As a kid Nolan began making short movies with his father's Super-8 camera. He went on to study English at University College London. His first film was FOLLOWING (1998) which had a budget of $6,000. Since then he’s directed many critically and commercially hits such as, INCEPTION, INSOMNIA, INTERSTELLAR and the BATMAN series. Seven out of 9 films Nolan directed are on the IMDB's top 250.
