According to the Hindu calendar, this is a gazetted holiday in India, which has been marked on the 10th day of the bright half (Shukla Paksha) of the month of Ashwin (Ashuja). Colorful Ravan head effigies Dussehra which is also known as Vijayadashami, is a major festival which is celebrated at the end of Navratri every year. It is a celebration of the victory of good over evil. Every year as per Hindu calendar, this important festival is celebrated on the tenth day of the month Ashvin. The festival of Dussehra draws its origination from the great Hindu epic Ramayana which says that the eighth incarnation of Lord Vishnu, Lord Rama killed the ten headed devil Ravana in the Sat-yuga, since Ravana had abducted Lord Rama's wife Sita. ... To commemorate this day, Vijayadashmi or Dussehra is celebrated. Elsewhere, on Dasara, the towering effigies of Ravana symbolizing the evil are burnt with fireworks marking evil's destruction. The festival also starts the preparation for one of the most important and widely celebrated Diwali, the festival of lights, which is celebrated twenty days after the Vijayadashami. Once again Maa Durga is back to the earth. We all are eagerly waiting for the auspicious festival of Durga Puja. We celebrate Durga Puja to mark the victory of Goddess Durga over the evil demon Mahishasura. It is celebrated during the last five days of Navaratri. Durga Puja is one of the important Hindu festivals in India. The festival celebrates life, culture, traditions and customs. The festival is celebrated all over India and has different rituals and festivities especially in the eastern Indian states of West Bengal, Assam, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha and Tripura. Navratri takes place at the beginning of October around harvest time and, as the name implies, this festival is celebrated for nine days. Navratri is also known as Durga Puja. During this period Durga, Lakshmi and Saraswati are worshipped as three different manifestations of Shakti, or cosmic energy. Worship Maa Shailputri on the first day of Navaratri. One of all nine forms of Devi Durga is worshipped every day in Navaratri. The first form of Maa Durga is Shailputri, who was born to the King of Mountains. “Shail” means mountain and “putri” means daughter. Navaratri is celebrated in different ways throughout India. ... The Chaitra Navaratri culminates in Rama Navami on the ninth day, and the Sharada Navaratri culminates in Durga Puja and Dussehra. The Rama Navami remembers the birth of Rama, preceded by nine days of Ramayana recital particularly among the Vaishnava temples. Durga (pronunciation: [ˈd̪ʊrɡaː]; Sanskrit: दुर्गा; Bangla: দুর্গা), meaning "the inaccessible" or "the invincible", is the most popular incarnation of Devi and one of the main forms of the Goddess Shakti in the Hindu pantheon. Durga is the original manifested form of Mother Parvati or Adi-Parashakti. So when Lord Shiva saw Kali in this anger form ,He simply Laid down under Her Feet, and when Maa Kali got realized that She touched His husband by foot because of mistakenly Her tongue came out,Her anger subsides instantly. and then We found the one of the praying form of Maa Kali. Thus, their relation is that of husband and wife. It is Lord Shiva who cools the angry goddess down and helps her become normal (i.e., Devi Parvati) again. In simple words, Lord Shiva is the all pervading consciousness and Maa Kali is the shakti.
