The Poet: Syed Razi Tirmizi سیّد رضی ترمذی was born in Lahore لاہور, Punjab پنجاب, British India, in 1926. After completing his education from Islamia College اسلامیہ کالج, Railway Road ریلوے روڈ, Lahore, he joined Radio Pakistan, Lahore, in 1949. After a long career, he retired in 1985 as a Deputy Controller of the Central Production Unit, Radio Pakistan, Lahore. After retiring from Radio, he worked for a short time as an editor at Ferozsons Lahore فیروز سنز, a publishing house. He passed away in Lahore on 18 January 2013. His collection of poetry was published as “Yaadon ka Mausam” یادوں کا موسم. It contained ghazals غزلیں, geets گیت, hamds حمد, naats نعت, and salaams سلام. He translated a few American long plays in Urdu, which were published as, “aik khoya hua larka” ایک کھویا ہوا لڑکا. . He concentrated more on nazms نظمیں, compared to ghazals. He also wrote radio dramas for the radio, a collection of which was published as “Misaal ke taor par” مثال کے طور پر. His asha'ar اشعار are simple and moving which touch the heart. A few examples: جب بھی آتا، دل ہی دُکھاتا تھا، لیکن کیسا شخص تھا پھر بھی اچھّا لگتا تھا خوشبُو، رنگ، ہوائیں، نغمے، سب تیرے میں تیرا بن کر اِترایا پھرتا تھا دل تو یُوں پامال نہ کرتا تھا کوئی قحطِ وفا میں شہر سے جنگل اچھّا تھا اِک دیوانہ رہتا تھا اُس بستی میں اُس کا کیا انجام ہُوا ؟ کُچھ یاد نہی تنہائی کی شام اور بارش کی آواز وہ بھی کیسا موسم تھا، کُچھ یاد نہیں اُس کی چھوٹی چھوٹی باتیں یاد رہیں اپنا سب کُچھ بھُول گیا ، کُچھ یاد نہیں He can be seen on the youtube reciting his poem: meray pagal dil. A very moving poem, followed by its singing by Mr. Khalid Asghar, a producer at Radio Pakistan. The video includes some pictures of Syed Razi Tirmizi marhoom.
