Ik was heel even pimpelmees peuteropvang voor deze jonge pimpelmees die bij zijn eerste vliegles wat last had van de harde wind. De ouders van deze pimpelmees zijn hun peuter later weer op komen halen. De pimpelmees is, net als de koolmees, een bosvogel die zich heeft aangepast aan de menselijke omgeving. Ook hij broedt graag in nestkasten en komt in de winter dicht bij huis, bungelend aan vetbollen en pindanetjes. Pimpelmezen kunnen zelfs op de dunste twijgjes nog voedsel zoeken. Ze stellen niet veel eisen aan hun leefomgeving en zijn dan ook veel te vinden in tuinen en parken. De pimpelmees heeft een kenmerkend blauw ‘petje’, gele borst, smalle, zwarte oogstreep, zwartblauwe kinvlek en blauwachtige vleugels. Mannetjes helderder van kleur dan vrouwtjes en juvenielen.
