In this video I’m going to go over the Pros, Cons & various features of both the AirPods Pro & the 2019 AirPods to help you make an informed buying decision to figure out which ones are best for you! So stay tuned! Off the top I’d like to say that both AirPods & AirPods Pro are really cool headphones. They both cram lots of cool modern technology into such a small convenient package that comfortably fits right in your pocket! But which on is right for you? The AirPods Pro are $90 US more than the base model AirPods, just what are you getting for that $90 & does it matter to you? There are actually 3 varieties of AirPods currently available for sale at Apple. There’s the base model AirPods, they come with the regular plug in charge case. Then there’s the Regular AirPods with the wireless charging case & finally the AirPods Pro. Both the base model AirPods & the AirPods with wireless charging case are pretty much the same with the exception of the case. They both get 5 hours of listening time & a 24 hour case charge. They both offer always on Siri functionality & have a decent sound. For the extra $90 AirPods Pro offers all of the features of the base model AirPods plus Active Noise cancellation with an adaptive EQ & a customizable fit that allows you to choose a comfortable size for the silicone ear tips that go deep into your ear to offer passive noise cancellation that works in conjunction with the software controlled active noise cancellation. They have slightly less battery life per use with about 4.5 hours of listening time vs the 5 hours of listening time for the regular AirPods, but the case is the same in terms of battery life offering 24 hours worth of charge. In terms of the sound they do sound a bit better than the regular AirPods, they have slightly deeper bass & tighter sounding response. But is it $90 better? This is where usage case & fit really come into play. The regular AirPods are a standard fit that really can’t be customized. Anecdotally I’ve found about 2/3s of people have no problem fitting them in their ear. But that other 1/3 can’t either fit them in their ears comfortably or they fall out easily. If you’re in that 1/3, then the regular AirPods aren’t even an option for you. The one major benefit of the Airpods Pro is that they can be customized to fit into pretty much everyones ears. So if the regular EarPods that came with your iPhone don’t fit or stay in your ears, your best choice is the AirPods Pro. If you are a part of the 2/3s of people that have no issue with fit, then I think it really boils down to the usage case. If you fly often or plan to use your AirPods in loud or noisy environments where you don’t care about what’s happening around you, then the AirPods Pro are the way to go! I found the noise cancellation to work quite well! To compare the exact prices, the AirPods Pro retail for $249 USD, the Regular AirPods with the wireless charging case are $199 USD & the base model AirPods are $159 USD. If budget is the major factor, then I think the regular base model AirPods are just fine for most people providing you don’t have any fitting issues. But if it’s not a budget focused decision, then I think it boils down to if you think you’ll use the noise cancellation. If you’re like me & mostly use them when you’re out & about & need to be able to hear your surroundings, then the regular AirPods are still the best choice for you! Why spend the extra money if you’re going to be using them in transparency mode all the time anyway! But if you think you’ll be doing some critical listening or you’ll be using them in really loud situations like on an airplane a fair bit then the AirPods Pro are the best choice for you.
