Its arguably one of the most stylish SUV designs on the planet. The Range Rover Velar offers a svelte beauty inspired by the way in which it remains stealth and streamlined in its appearance while being modern chic and sophisticated all at the same time. Perhaps, this has never been more evident than when the vehicle is dressed in Range Rover’s top draw Autobiography guise and bearing SV performance. In short: • Price: R1 724 350 (R1 840 650 as tested) • Engine: 5.0 litre supercharged V8 • Power/Torque: 405 kW/680 Nm • Transmission: 8-speed automatic • Fuel economy: 11.4 L/100 km (claimed) • Load space: 834-1 705 litres When you add the word Autobiography to name Range Rover, you are in for rather an automotive treat. Its top drawer style, luxury and elegance meeting go-anywhere typical Land Rover ability. Then, you add the two letters SV to the mix and you are in for some smoking performance. With a whopping 405 kW and 680 Nm of torque delivered from an engine which has been within the Land Rover stable for at least a decade, the SVAutobiography Velar offers exhilarating performance which mighty V8 roar. All power is sent through an 8-speed automated transmission, and though the 5.0-litre supercharged petrol V8 motor may have some thirst on its side, there is nothing to match its mighty roar, performance and tested brut strength which is something that can only be described through experience. Unique Charm, Unique Style The inclusion of 22-inch dark grey rims with diamond edging and a sparkle finish, the famous racing-inspired “chicken wire” front latticework, unique Range Rover designed Autobiography lettering and large red brake callipers hint at its performance nature. Quad tailpipes allow for the bark, while the interior screams style and luxury. With quilted red leather seats. Rear passenger entertainment displays, the unique and very high-tech twin 12.3-inch displays within the dash and a digital instrumentation cluster, the Velar is as high-tech as it is space-aged in its appearance. Meridian Sound, tops of the interior acoustics, while a blackened-roof lining makes for a purposeful and cosseted cabin. The claimed figure is 11.8 L/100 km, and you can expect about 350 km of fuel range in a mixed-use tank, but at the end of the day, what price can you put on its ability to combine top-notch luxury with top-tier performance. To Conclude The Range Rover Velar SVAutobiography is a wonderful SUV. Thirsty at the pumps, not cheap to purchase, but able to deliver the best possible Velar experience to the buyer, it takes what was from the start an accomplished, premium and executive product from the brand, and exceeds my expectations on every level. With its mighty power, street cred and luxury, this certainly will remain one of my all-time greats within the luxury SUV market.
