Biju Bhaskar and Sindhu Bhaskar at Thannal Campus in Tiruvannamalai, Tamil Nadu. The kitchen has a mud oven & Rocket chulha (stove) which are very efficient traditional cooking appliances made from earth. One can see how various wall systems like Cob, Adobe and wattle and Daub were done within a single space. Revival of wattle and Cob walls seen in 300-year-old traditional houses in Ganjam, Mysore, which had been forgotten for years, is used to make the walls of the extension area. A cob bench as seating and a working table top in the kitchen using reused wood and kadappa stone are examples of how our needs can be met in a very simple way in this small kitchen. You can also see different roof types - a Lime crete roof, a coconut leaf thatch roof and Terracotta tile roof, all of which is made on a structure of bamboo posts and beams.
