Modern Love Not the best quality, a bit overmodulated in places, really a party tape. Sounds like it was recorded close with actives around the microphone. Overall I would say listenable but not the first one you’ll throw on around your fellow Bowiephiles. Funny how the apparent well is pretty dry from the Australian leg of the 1983 tour. I was looking through the Concert Tapes book and nothing from Perth has ever surfaced for 1983 or Adelaide. Just surprised for such a mammoth tour. This recording is complete, there are several small interruptions between songs which I have tightened up, the full encore break is included. The audience were extremely Ilysterical, though unfortunately agressively rather than enthusiastically hysterical. From the very moment Bowie came on the crowd started pressing forward, jumping, etc. ,which resulted in people being thrown forward and backward, from left to right,so that finally it got really dangerous to find oncself in the area near Lhe stage. Gradually, when more and more people decided not to risk their lives but to keep some distance from the stage and watch the concert on the video screen, the atmosphere got slightly calmer. In spite of all this Bowie tells them the Australian audience is great; hopefully he does not include this Sydney audience in his praise, for it would certainly make me doubt Bowie’s since rity: For,everyone knows Bowie hates a violent audience. But I suppose it’s primarily the audiences at his prevjous coneerts that he has ill mind, when quite neutrally he mentions the ‘Australian audience’.
