It is located about 9 km south of Teknaf in Cox's Bazar district and 8 km west of the coast of Myanmar at the mouth of the Naf River . It is also locally known as Coconut Ginger because of its abundance of coconuts . It is a well known name among the sea lovers of Bangladesh. Famous writers, fiction writer Humayun Ahmed Cinnamon Island, the name of the feature films increased by the island's identity. It is not known when the island was first identified by humans. The first Arab merchants named the island Jinjira. Note that they used to rest on this island while traveling from Chittagong to Southeast Asia. In time, Chittagong and its adjoining people came to know this island as Jinjira. Some Bengalis and Rakhine around 1890People from the community come to settle on the island. These were mainly fishermen. As far as is known, 13 families were the first settlers. They chose the northern part of the island. Over time, the island became a Bengali-inhabited area. The island already had keya and palm trees. Probably Bengali fishermen planted a large number of coconut trees on the island as a means of alleviating water scarcity and fatigue. Over time the whole island once became the ‘coconut tree main’ island. According to this source, the locals started calling the northern part of the island as Coconut Ginger. The British-Indian survey team of the island in 1900 ADAccepts as part. In the survey, they named St. Martin after the Christian saint Martin instead of the local name. Gradually, to people outside the region, the island became known as St. Martin. [1] According to Sheikh Bakhtiyar Uddin, Professor of Botany, University of Chittagong, the island was named after Martin, the Deputy Commissioner of Chittagong, when it was annexed by British India in 1900. [2] The island's naming of a saint after a Christian settlement and no church seems to be inaccurate history. The island was named after the then deputy commissioner.
