@Dallas Dispatches Homelessness Funding after Carter Fellow Spotlights Issue
For her fellowship project, Kim Horner, a recipient of the Rosalynn Carter Fellowships for Mental Health Journalism, wrote about mental health issues and addiction experienced by people who are homeless. Her fellowship reporting, published in the Dallas Morning News, revealed that city taxpayers spent about $50 million a year sheltering, treating, and jailing people who are homeless. Following her reporting, the state legislature put $1 million into an emergency fund for solutions for chronic homelessness.
