The Dark Pirate Stories's video: Camping at an Abandoned Cold War Radar Base in Italian Alps ACE High NATO Communication System

In this story we explore an abandoned NATO radio communication station. Dating back to 1950s, ACE High (Allied Command Europe High-band) communication system used microwave radio to communicate over large distances, through 9 different NATO countries, from Norway to Turkey, stretching nearly 4000km. It was intended to serve as an early warning system. This Cold War Radar Base, located at an elevation of around 1500m, was one of the key station of this top secret communication network. It has 4 gigantic paraboloids of 20m in diameter. The ACE High system remained in use until the early 1990s. This station has stayed abandoned since then. The main goal is to redevelop it and create at least some sort of museum out of it, at least to preserve the radio systems for civil purposes.
