GANGA EXPRESSWAY UPDATE | OUTER RINGROAD LUCKNOW | KANPUR LUCKNOW EXPRESSWAY | The Dawn India's second-longest corridor, the 594-km-long Ganga Expressway is set to link 12 districts in UP The construction of the ambitious project Ganga Expressway is set to find groundwork in September this year, as the government has already acquired more than 80% of the required land. The project is budgeted at over ₹36,000 crores and is expected to commission operations within the next 26 months. UBeing built under the authority of the Industrial Development Authority, the UPEDA, Ganga Expressway is set to connect Meerut to Prayagraj, easing mobility for travellers across the state. Here are all the details regarding the project: What will be the length of the Ganga Expressway corridor? The Ganga Expressway corridor is going to be 594 km long. The corridor is visioned to be a 6-laned road which can be extended to 8 lanes, in the future. The width of the corridor will be 120 km. The Ganga Expressway will start near the Bijauli village of Meerut and will end at the Judapur Dandu village of Prayagraj. Which all districts will be connected by the Ganga Expressway? 12 districts in UP, namely Meerut, Hapur, Bulandshahr, Amroha, Sambhal, Badaun, Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, Unnao, Rae Bareli, Pratapgarh and Prayagraj, will be connected by the Ganga Expressway. It will also run through 519 villages. Vehicles will be allowed to run at a maximum speed of 120 km on the Ganga Expressway. It will reduce the travel time by at least 4 hours between Delhi and Prayagraj. Key features of the Ganga Expressway? The Ganga Expressway will have 14 major bridges, 126 minor bridges, 929 culverts, 7 ROBs, 28 flyovers and 8 diamond interchanges. How many toll plazas will be installed along the Ganga Expressway? The Ganga Expressway will have two main toll plazas at Meerut and Prayagraj. Besides, there will be 15 ramp tolls along the route. The Ganga Expressway airstrip is slated to come up in the Sultanpur district of UP. This will be used by the Air Force for defence purposes.PEDA to develop the Ganga Expressway. The UPEDA has also decided to set up a precast concrete boundary to prevent encroachment by strays and locals, ensuring hiccup-free vehicular movement here. According to the drafted proposal, the expressway will also feature a kilometre-long bridge over River Ganga and a 720-metres-long bridge over the river Ramganga Further, the Development Authority has divided the project into 12 packages, to ensure the timely completion of work. Reportedly, various timetables will be made to monitor the construction work. Kisan Path and Outer Ring Road Project Part of the ambitious 108 kilometre 'outer ring road project' the kisan path is a 15 kilometre stretch which connects the Sultanpur to Faizabad Road in Lucknow. The entire outer ring road project is expected to decongest the roads of Lucknow which are already brimming with traffic. Greenfield Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) had sought approval from the Uttar Pradesh government to convert the six laned highway connecting Lucknow and Kanpur into a National highway. The Chief Minister has accepted the proposition and now a no-objection certificate, regarding the same will be sent by the state government to the centre. This 63 km long highway, connecting the two cities, will reduce the commute time to a mere 45 minutes, as opposed to the 2 hours 39-minute journey via the NH 27. Lucknow-Kanpur expressway elevated to be National Highway The proposed 6 laned, Greenfield Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway will soon be granted the status of a National Highway as the State has accepted the proposal tabled by the NHAI. construction work of the expressway will start near the Shaheed Path and after this, Nawabganj will be connected with Kanpur via Banthra, Bani, Datouli and Kantha. The expressway, costing around ₹4,700 crore, will pass through 31 villages of Unnao and 11 villages of Lucknow. 440 hectares of land in Unnao villages and 20 hectares of land in Lucknow is yet to be acquired.
