Udhampur Srinagar Baramulla Railway Link | USBRL project status | Chenab bridge update The indian railways is on the right track to achieve another engineering milestone. The steel arch of the railway bridge on the Chenab River is about to be completed. It is all set to become the world 's highest railway bridge. Atal's plan, Modi will complete! It will be the world's highest railway bridge after it is completed. It is now considered a stupendous engineering pattern. The bridge was conceived in 2002 during the tenure of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. He laid the foundation of the project in 2004. But four years later, in September 2008, it was declared unsafe and the construction work was stopped. Later, in the second term of the Congress, the bridge was resumed in 2010. It was then targeted for completion in 2015. In the meantime, there were hurdles and the bridge was being used. After the Narendra Modi government came in 2014, the project was given special attention. This time the construction work was targeted for completion in 2019. But the deadline increased once again. Now, there are reports that the bridge will be fully completed by December 2022. The peculiarity of the bridge? Reasi is a district in Jammu and Kashmir. There are two villages. Bakkal and Cowrie. These two villages flow through Chenab, the highest railway bridge in the world. The bridge is no 1.3 km long. There's nothing special about it. That's in its height. The bridge is being constructed at an altitude of 359 metres from the river bed. This bridge is also 35 meters above the Ebit Tower of France. Its pillars are not ordinary. Such a structure requires a very strong base. Therefore, the pillars of the bridge has a base of 36.5 metres long and 50 metres wide. The bridge is being constructed in accordance with the seismic zone-5 associated with the earthquake. You understand that this bridge can also withstand an earthquake of 8 magnitude on the Richter scale. Arch technique (hanging arch) is being used to build chenab bridge. The bridge will be equipped with online monitoring and warning system. Blast proof steel has been used in the construction of the bridge. The structure is so powerful that even 40 kilograms of explosives will not be able to do anything. Winds of 266 kilometres per hour will not spoil the bridge. As soon as the wind speed exceeds 90 kmph, the signals in the bridge will become red. This will already stop the trains. The bridge will have two tracks. The width of one will be 14 meters. There will also be a 1.2 meter wide path for inspection of the bridge. Maintenance work can be done even if the train is passing through the bridge. Ropeway will feature lift. Sensors will be installed. It will be known immediately when the malfunction occurs. The lifeline of the bridge will be around 120 years. Trains can run at a speed of 100 km. The construction of the bridge will cost about Rs 1200 crore. In this project, 15 major institutions of the country including DRDO are helping konkan railways. The construction of a rail bridge on katra and Banihal routes, 111 km long, will connect the country through Kashmir railway line. There is now a rail between Banihal and Baramulla, but there is no rail between Katra-Banihal. A part of the project, which is 100 km long between Katra and Dharam, is being constructed by konkan railway, a 52 km rail route. It has 46.1 km (86%) Way tunnel and 5 km (9%) The path goes through the bridge. There are 17 tunnels in this route. The longest tunnel is 9.3 km long. There are 23 bridges with the highest bridge of 91 metres. Many challenges faced Needless to say, it was not easy to build the world's highest rail bridge. The biggest challenge here is the weather, which changes from moment to moment. This place is also very sensitive in terms of earthquakes. This area falls in Seismic Zone-4. Therefore, earthquakes of the last 100 years within 350 km of the Chenab River were studied for the construction of the bridge. The design of the bridge was then designed. It also studied winds of 266 kmph. After designing the paper, it was now the turn to land. Big machines were needed to build this bridge. It was also a big problem as to how the goods in the construction of the bridge would reach. For this, approach road was constructed to bring heavy dumper goods and other construction related machines here. Special arrangements were also made to avoid falling debris in the river during construction. In addition, the blast to prepare the base blew up as much part of the mountain as was necessary. This was done through control blasting. The bridge is being built by an infrastructure engineering company named Afcons Infrastructure Ltd.
