The Delirious Dweeb's video: What is Philosophy

@What is Philosophy?
Philosophy is a big ol' monster of a subject, so it can be hard to know where to start. In this video I'll give you a quick overview of the six branches of philosophy, and provide some resources that also introduce the subject in an accessible way, in case you want to learn more. All the diagrams used in this video, and all the references and stuff, can be found here: https://dweeb.blog/2019/03/06/what-is-philosophy-video-extras-part-1/ SO MANY LINKS. But first, I think I owe MindMeister a shout-out up top, because I relied heavily on their app to make all these diagrams. Also, they give anybody who uses the app a special promo link, so it actually does benefit me if you click this. But like, no pressure... *nudge nudge* https://www.mindmeister.com/?r=565982 THE GREAT COURSES ARE SO GREAT. Here are a few of my favorites: The Modern Intellectual Tradition from Descartes to Derrida with Lawrence Cahoone: https://www.thegreatcoursesplus.com/show/modern_intellectual_tradition_from_descartes_to_derrida The Great Ideas of Philosophy with Daniel N. Robinson: https://www.thegreatcoursesplus.com/show/the_great_ideas_of_philosophy_2nd_edition The Big Questions of Philosophy with David K. Johnson: https://www.thegreatcoursesplus.com/show/the_big_questions_of_philosophy Why Evil Exists with Charles Mathewes: https://www.thegreatcoursesplus.com/show/why_evil_exists My favorite Intro to Philosophy book at the moment is this one by Daniel J. Sullivan, partly because it's cheap but also because it's geared toward anybody, not just philosophers: https://www.amazon.com/Introduction-Philosophy-Perennial-Principles-Classical-ebook/dp/B06XCKB13Z/ref=tmm_kin_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=&sr= Okay, Audiobooks. Will Durant's "The Story of Philosophy" - https://www.audible.com/pd/The-Story-of-Philosophy-Audiobook/B0044EQEIA?ref=a_lib_c4_libItem_7_B0044EQEIA&pf_rd_p=ae76b2bb-e63d-4a67-b357-dab3dee05ca1&pf_rd_r=MANT0E1SVNH9MGSK2BJ7& Bertrand Russell's "A History of Western Philosophy" - https://www.audible.com/pd/A-History-of-Western-Philosophy-Audiobook/B00FQMJ4WM?ref=a_lib_c4_libItem_8_B00FQMJ4WM&pf_rd_p=ae76b2bb-e63d-4a67-b357-dab3dee05ca1&pf_rd_r=MANT0E1SVNH9MGSK2BJ7& As an example of a Great Course I got on Audible because they didn't have it on TGC+ is "Exploring Metaphysics" with David K. Johnson - https://www.audible.com/pd/Exploring-Metaphysics-Audiobook/B00JLJHEHS?ref=a_lib_c4_libItem_6_B00JLJHEHS&pf_rd_p=ae76b2bb-e63d-4a67-b357-dab3dee05ca1&pf_rd_r=NBWM4QEG04TH3DQHHK58& Oh and speaking of DKJ, let me also give you a link to the GC+ course he did on Science Fiction and Philosophy, because I'm pretty sure you nerds would be into it: https://www.thegreatcoursesplus.com/show/sci_phi_science_fiction_as_philosophy What else? The Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy on... Metaphysics: https://plato.stanford.edu/entries/metaphysics/ Epistemology: https://plato.stanford.edu/entries/epistemology/ Logic: https://plato.stanford.edu/search/searcher.py?query=logic Ethics: https://plato.stanford.edu/search/search?query=ethics Political Philosophy: https://plato.stanford.edu/search/search?query=political+philosophy I also really love this website for its simplicity and YOU KNOW I LOVE A GOOD INDEX: https://www.philosophybasics.com/ I also just found this free Intro textbook while looking for the above site, but full disclosure, I haven't read it yet... https://open.umn.edu/opentextbooks/textbooks/an-introduction-to-philosophy If I'm forgetting anything, you can find it on Ye Olde Dweeb Blog! Also the music in this video is from Epidemic Sound! http://epidemicsound.com Also if you're here and you don't already watch Crash Course Philosophy then... that would be really odd, but yuno... go watch that too. OH GOSH I THINK THAT'S ALL OF IT. Guys, this was a lot of work and I just hope you appreciate my parents as much as I do for ensuring that I do not starve to death even though I'm a loser with a stuffed animal addiction. p.s. just FYI, I have a PayPal. Or you can just write my parents a thank you card. But anyway my paypal is http://paypal.me/cassiethedweeb just... in case you were wondering... *shyly runs and hides in shame*
