The Family Bond's video: The Gashouse Gang

@The Gashouse Gang
The World Series Champion 1934 Cardinals earned the nickname the gashouse gang after their fercious play during the 1934 world series vs the Detroit Tigers. The extremely colorful Dizzy Dean won 30 games that year, the last National Leaguer to do so. They also featured a stacked lineup headlined by Joe "Ducky" Medwick who won the triple crown 3 years later in 1937, the last national leaguer to do so. It also included Dizzy Dean's brother "Daffy" as well as Pepper Martin. Martin's real name was Johnny and he was known as the Wild Horse of the Osage because of his daring, aggressive base running abilities. Martin was an outfielder for the St. Louis Cardinals during the 1930s and early 1940s and was also known for his heroics during the 1931 World Series, in which he was the catalyst in a Cardinals' upset victory over the Philadelphia Athletics. As an integral member of the Cardinals' teams of the 1930s that became known as the Gashouse Gang for their roguish behavior and practical jokes. The nickname is rooted from a mid 18th century gang of New York "The Gashouse Gang" who originated from Manhattan's now defunct Gashouse District, which is modern day Stuyvesant Town.
