BACKPACKING THE PACIFIC CREST TRAIL Section K | SOLO FEMALE TRAVEL | PCT 2021 // Ever wondered what backpacking the Pacific Crest Trail in Washington is like? In August 2021, I left to hike Section K along the PCT northbound (NoBo) solo, from Stevens Pass to Rainy Pass for 7 days. I parked my car at the trailhead at Stevens Pass and headed north on the Pacific Crest Trail, by myself with 6.5 days’ worth of food and all of the backpacking gear I’d need for my trip. Over the next 7 days and 127 miles, I’d hike and camp by myself along the PCT, heading towards the Stehekin Bakery and then ending my PCT section hike at Rainy Pass where my friends would pick me up. This is the vlog series of my PCT 2021 Section K solo 7-day hike. EPISODE 5: Days 5 & 6 out on trail…The morning of Day 5 started off with a nice, gradual climb up through the trees and in the rain. There were plenty of blowdowns along the way including a huge portion of the trail that looked like it had been wiped out from an avalanche. After the big climb for the day, the clouds lingered, but the area opened up showing all of the beautiful mountains that surrounded the trail in the area. My blisters were still bothering me, both of my feet fell in the water 7 miles from camp, there were a few more tricky blowdowns to get around in the burn area and I didn’t make it to camp for the evening until after dark. The night of Day 5 was, by far, the hardest night on trail for me on this entire trip. After dealing with two mice break-ins into my tent overnight, I got up at 4am on Day 6 and was on trail hiking by 4:45am in order to make it in time for the 9:15am shuttle into. Stehekin. This meant hiking 8+ miles by myself in the dark. That’s okay though because today was town day – Stehekin Bakery or Bust! After taking the shuttle back to the trail from Stehekin, it was back on trail to spend my last night on trail at camp in the North Cascades National Park with some of the thru-hikers I had met earlier on my trip. Total Mileage for Day 5: 21.8 miles Total Ascent: 4,938 feet Total Descent: 4,395 feet Total Mileage for Day 6: 14.3 miles Total Ascent: 1,990 feet Total Descent: 2,714.2 feet Sign up for my email list + get my "Advice From A Thru-Hiker: Lessons I Learned Hiking the PCT" sent directly to your inbox FREE!
