The Kudos Science Trust's video: Dr Adam Hartland - Environmental Scientist

Tracking traces Tiny keys to big global environmental questions - past, present and future - are Dr Adam Hartland’s specialty. A Senior Lecturer at the University of Waikato, Dr. Hartland’s focus is on the interaction between natural organic matter, nanoparticles and trace elements in soil, water and minerals. He has unravelled clues to climate change in stalagmites and stalactites; shown how cadmium isotopes can differentiate natural sources from fertiliser contributions; and demonstrated how nano-scale iron colloids move arsenic into groundwater, contributing significant knowledge to help manage environmental challenges. Dr Hartland is also a technological innovator - designing novel devices to measure nutrient levels in flowing water and support autonomous collection and storage of lab-quality water samples. Dr Adam Hartland won the Waikato Regional Council Environmental Science Award. Kudos Awards 2020.
