During a family trip, I made a stop at the Shelburne Museum in Shelburne, VT to see the museum’s collection of railroad equipment, including Central Vermont , a business car, a wooden replica of Old Ironsides (the first locomotive built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works), and the Gertie Buck, a self-propelled inspection car. is an I7a 4-6-0 “Ten Wheeler” built in February 1915 by ALCo, being one of four in the class on the Central Vermont Railway. Because it was a medium-sized 4-6-0, with 28,000 lbs. of tractive effort and a power output of 1,500 hp, it served double duty pulling both freight and passenger trains. became known as the “Locomotive of the Presidents”, because of its use on special trains carrying Calvin Coolidge, Herbert Hoover, Frank D.
