Mare and Foal Sanctuary's video: Help us care for foals in desperate need of our help

@Help us care for foals in desperate need of our help
Spring is often a busy time at the Sanctuary, and this year is no exception. Alongside our usual routine for those already in our care, we've had multiple rescues, new horses and ponies arriving, and a very hectic foaling season. First was the arrival of Moonflower, a beautiful skewbald filly. Then, three days later, Ingra gave birth to foal Ida. We also have another mare, Aish, who is due to give birth any day now, so our grooms are anxiously checking up on her 24 hours a day and will continue to do so until the foal arrives. Luckily all the births went smoothly, but our vet and dedicated grooms were on hand the whole time making sure that all of the mares were well cared for and safe at all times. Our staff take it in turns to sleep in the room next to the stables, with alarms waking them every hour to check on the horses via our specialist CCTV equipment. This means that we can keep an eye on the mares without disturbing them, but also be ready at a moments notice if they need us. The dedication and commitment of our staff always makes me proud. The sad truth is that we have been particularly worried about our mares this year as they were in such poor condition when they arrived with us late last year. In November 2018 Aish, Ingra and Mel came to us straight from Dartmoor, where they had been living over the summer. The farmer who owned them had inherited the older mares, and was worried that due to their age and condition they might not survive being pregnant over the winter out on the moors. She asked us for help and so we brought the mares into the safety of the Sanctuary, which we were able to do with your support. Mels teeth were in terrible condition, with extensive work needed to make her comfortable. More work needs to be done in the future too. She is extremely nervous around people, but did so well with the vet considering the amount of work she had done. However, Aish is in the worst condition of the three even now we are concerned for her. She had worrying blood results at first, which thankfully are now more stable, but she has to have regular checkups with the vet to make sure she keeps improving. Thankfully these foals were born into the safety of our care, and we can continue to look after them and watch them grow into healthy and happy young horses. Were coming towards the end of foaling season, but we remain on stand-by to help any animals who havent yet made it into our care; young vulnerable foals who have been abandoned, or heavily pregnant mares who are struggling with no one to look after them. This is when they need help the most and that is why your donation could mean the difference between life and death for foals like Moonflower and Ida. https://www.mareandfoal.org/our-new-arrivals/ https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/new-foals
