This is the best guide on investing in stocks for beginners. Step 1, understanding investing in the stock market. I answer some frequently asked questions. What is the stock market? The stock market is a place where shares of companies are traded. If you buy a piece of a company like Apple, you own a very small piece of apple. How does a stock price more up and down? It moves by supply and demand, the more demand or good news a company has, the higher the price of the stock. Why do I want to invest? You want to buy shares of stocks because your money goes up with the company. How much can I make by investing? An average of 10% a year is a good amount to make by investing. Should I invest in the long term or short term. Long term is much safer and can still make you good money, short term is very unsafe but can make you more profits. How much do I need to start investing? You'll want at least $1000 and no debt to start investing. Can the market crash? The market crashes every 10 years so it is possible. Saving more cash is a good hedge against market crashes. Step 2, opening a brokerage account. You can open a brokerage with your personal bank and start trading stocks. Other options are Robinhood for free trading in America. Step 3, choosing your first step. Your first stock should be something close to your heart, something you use daily and understand. If you use Iphones, then do research on Apple as your first company. Step 4, valuing a stock. As a beginner, all you need to know now is the price to earnings ratio. The p/e ratio tells you about how much profit a company makes in the past year. You'll need many more valuation ratios for more advanced levels of stock picking. Step 5, creating a complete portfolio. A full portfolio might look something like this. 50% in the S&P 500 index fund, 50% in single stocks like Apple stock, Microsoft stock, Facebook stock, Paypal stock, and AMD stock. Step 6, keeping up with current events and stock price. Keep track of your stock on a stock tracking website and seeing how it moves with the news. Once you understand how a stock moves up and down, you'll have more experience for more risky trades. This is everything a beginner in the stock market needs to start investing.
