@Pope Surprises Polish Pilgrims With John Paul II Tomb Appearance
Pope Francis on Thursday (October 31) surprised Polish pilgrims and priests by visiting the tomb of John Paul II with an unscheduled appearance. Francis arrived at the tomb around 0700 local time (0600gmt) on Thursday morning. To the delight of the pilgrims and the Polish clergy he celebrated Mass with them. "Without the love of Christ, without living this love and recognising it, nourishing oneself with it, one cannot be a Christian. A Christian is one who feels watched by the Lord, feels under his beautiful watch, loved by the Lord and loved all the way through the end. A Christian feels that his life has been saved by the blood of the Christ," the pope said during the mass. The visit came as Francis prepares to mark All Saints Day on Friday (November 1). He is due to hold Angelus in St. Peter's Square at noon and Mass at Rome's main cemetery later in the day. Pope John Paul II, the Polish pontiff who led the Catholic Church for 27 years and witnessed the fall of communism and Pope John XXIII, who called the reforming Second Vatican council, will be declared saints on April 27, 2014 Pope Francis announced last month.
