@Orlando Bloom and Richard Armitage Greet Hobbit Fans in New York
Orlando Bloom and Richard Armitage held up the New York leg of the worldwide fan event for "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug" on Monday (November 4). At the same time, fan experiences were happening simultaneously in Los Angeles and London with various actors from the film, while director Peter Jackson appeared live from New Zealand. After the hour long broadcast, Bloom said the event was like a big fan appreciation night. "In a way Peter is a fan of the fans, we are all fans of the fans, I'm fan of my fans, their fans of us. It's like a whole, it's one big giant, you know, appreciation for each other club," Bloom told Reuters. For Armitage being surrounded by the fans gives him mixed feelings. "I mean I get very nervous beforehand because, you know, there is a lot of attention on the movie but there is such love for the films. And that fan following is very loyal and has been around for a long time I think. And it's all about Peter really, it's about the way he makes his movie and it's about the way that he gives it to those fans with such love," he said. In the film, Bloom reprises his role from "The Lord of The Rings" franchise. "Legolas, you know, my favorite, if not, you know, one of my favorites if not my favorite character in movies. He is just a beautiful character to play. And so the fact that Pete thought that we could find a way for him to be a part of the world is amazing," said Bloom. For those not luckily enough to snag tickets, theaters from Germany to Spain to Mexico City broadcasted the event live. In addition, fans were able to log online to watch a live stream. Diehards screened Jackson's latest video blog which featured outtakes from set. And those in attendance in theaters were treated to roughly 20 minutes of exclusive footage from the upcoming movie. "I've seen bits of it in post production but seeing finished shots is really beautiful. Laketown looks incredible and the dragon is going to be very, very exciting. He's still teasing us with that dragon through," said Armitage. "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug" is set to hit theaters on December 13.
