The Mormon Informant's video: Racism in Mormonism - An Invitation to Repent

Russel M. Nelson recently called racist individuals to repentance while also condemning violent protests. While his condemnation of racism is appreciated, Russel and the church as a whole have a great deal of their own racism that requires some serious repentance. I hereby invite Russel M. Nelson and the Quorum of the Twelve to repent of the racism of the LDS institution, and to bring about the change necessary to absolve the church of it. Here are my suggestions: Items requiring repentance from the LDS institution: 1. Confess that the priesthood and temple ban was Brigham Young’s personal racist doctrine, and never came from God. 2. Confess that Brigham Young abused his authority as a prophet to maintain slavery in Utah. 3. Confess that Brigham Young accepted Green Flake, a child of God, as a payment of tithing to the church, and kept him as a slave. 4. Confess that the church slaughtered Native Americans as commanded by Brigham Young. 5. Confess that Brigham Young blamed the Paiute tribe for a massacre carried out by LDS members. 6. Confess that the church fought against the Civil Rights movement and was wrong to do so. 7. Confess that numerous prophets and general authorities taught incorrect and racist ideas as truth over the pulpit at General Conference. 8. Confess that the priesthood and temple ban remained in force for 129 years due to institutional racism, pride, and ignorance. 9. Confess that church leaders supported Anti-miscegenation and segregation. 10. Condemn every one of these actions and teachings individually, and denounce them openly. Apologize for them. Suggestions for restitution: 1. Offer restitution by speaking loudly and often against racism in General Conference and elsewhere. 2. Offer financial assistance and member volunteers to NAACP and similar organizations. Lobby on their behalf. 3. Remove names and statues of known racists and slave owners from BYU campus and church buildings, including Brigham Young himself. 4. Remove and openly denounce racist scriptures from the Book of Mormon, Pearl of Great Price, and Doctrine and Covenants. 5. Adjust church curriculum to acknowledge and denounce past teachings regarding race and curses of dark skin. 6. Condemn government institutions and actions that harm minority communities and petition for police reform. 7. Call DezNat (Deseret Nation) specifically to pepentance for their hateful and racist actions. 8.
