The Pfister Hotel is abuzz. Literally. More than 20,000 honeybees have moved into two rooftop hives on the 23-story tower of the hotel. Executive Chef Brian Frakes has heroically overcome his fear of bees and has taken on role of on-site beekeeper—all in the name of locally sourced honey to be used in signature dishes at the hotel this fall. Not to mention, hives at the Pfister will help the community by providing plenty of bees to pollinate area gardens and parks, in the midst of growing concerns about Colony Collapse Disorder in North American honeybees.
