Several states across the country including Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Maharashtra, Kerala have raised the demand for special train services. A few days ago, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar had written to Railway Minister Piyush Goyal, saying that 6.5 lakh migrant workers from various states across the nation were residing in camps in the state of Maharashtra, and had sought special arrangements to send them back to their home state The central government started Shramik Special Trains. Railway Minister Piyush Goyal tweeted that thanks to PM Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for allowing the citizens stranded in various parts of the country to be sent by the railways due to the lockdown. The Railways will run ‘Shramik Special Train’ to ensure that people away from home reach their destination. Shramik Special trains will help to move migrant workers, pilgrims, tourists, students and other persons stranded at different places due to lockdown. These Shramik special trains will be run from point to point on the request of both the concerned State Governments. The fare includes complimentary meals, drinking water for long-distance trains.
