Today I want to share with you a memory of Arnold Palmer that the walls here at The Shawnee Inn and the grounds of this golf course hold. It was 1954 at the Waring annual golf tournament Labor day weekend that Arnold saw Winnie walking down the grand staircase of the inn and she immediately caught his attention. The Legend is that it was love at first sight and only days later he asked her to marry him here at a dinner after a day of tournament golf. They were married later that year.
